Switchpoints - Culture Change on the Fast Track to Business Success

On a railroad, there are many decision points where trains are switched from one track to another to ensure they take the best route. These are switchpoints. Like a train in motion, corporate cultures encounter many switchpoints along the way—points where executive decisions create watershed change and define the organization’s future route.

Switchpoints is the inspiring story of how Canadian National Railway (CN) advanced from good to great in a few short years, becoming North America’s top-performing railroad – a favorite with both corporate customers and investors. Rich with insights and anecdotes, this book offers lessons that can be applied to all organizations in all industries seeking to improve the culture of the company.

Les Dakens, coauthor of SwitchPoints, has more than 30 years of experience working in human resources and is now a member of CLG’s Canadian Advisory Board. Prior to joining CLG’s Canadian Advisory Board, Les Darkens held a number of different human resources titles at various companies. These companies and titles include Principal of Pineridge Consulting Inc., a human resources consulting firm, Vice President of Human Resources for the North American division of H.J. Heinz Company, Senior Vice President People with Canadian National Railway (CN), and most recently, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer for Maple Leaf Foods Inc.
