Executive Advisor

Areas of Expertise

Mark Kutner has dedicated over 40 years to leading change in global organizations. Today, he has a dual role as an advisor— supporting executives in being clear, committed, and confident in facing difficult decisions—and as a facilitator of change— helping transform behaviors that undermine effectiveness. “As a CLG Executive Advisor, I become a partner and sounding board. My greatest strength is in quickly perceiving an organization’s unspoken agendas, problems, and solutions,” Mark says.

Mark is direct yet compassionate when he deploys his first-hand knowledge, incisive perspective, and exceptional communication skills to advise incoming and sitting CEOs and executives on enhancing leadership performance, aligning the organization, and achieving operational excellence. He cultivates a close rapport with his clients while helping evaluate priorities, define a path forward, and sustain business results.

Mark’s approach involves asking key questions: What are you passionate about? What are you committed to? Is your leadership team committed to the same outcomes? Are your objectives clearly understood by the entire organization? As he observes, “Most executives have a blind spot in realizing how they come across. I help them see what they’re really saying to people . . . I’m an objective, unbiased friend—plus I’m someone who has walked in their shoes.”

Professional Accomplishments

As President of Bell Atlantic’s General Business Services—a $4-billion division—Mark led the post-merger integration of NYNEX business services. He also served as the corporation’s President of Small Business Services, a $2-billion division.

At GTE Corporation, Mark had P&L responsibility as its Vice President/General Manager of National Markets, a cellular reseller. He also was Vice President of Sales for the South Area, generating over $2 billion in revenue, and had P&L responsibility for an organization operating as a separate subsidiary.

Mark rose through the ranks at IBM to become its Manager of Planning, General Business Group—International, responsible for a division’s revenue and product planning, performance tracking and analysis, and manpower allocation across 19 countries. As a sales executive, Mark led the division’s largest branch office in New York City.

As CEO, Chairman, and Interim CEO at several startups and turnarounds, Mark says he learned “how to size up a business situation quickly, evaluate leadership, and determine what it takes to succeed.”
